The truck roared to life, and I watched as he sped down the road, eventually being swallowed by the edges of the sleepy country town. I closed the door and leaned against it for a moment, imagining that he was still on the other side of it. Letting go, meant I was utterly alone. I turned back toward the living room and watched the curtain still billowing in the breeze, unprepared for the emptiness that was primed to swallow me whole.
